Today's special needs focus: FIV+ kitties!
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus is highly misunderstood. Once referred to as "cat AIDS" that thought process resulted in thousands of cats being euthanized, not adopted, or thrown out in the streets.
It is NOT like AIDS! HIV, untreated, progresses into AIDS. FIV is simply a virus that weakens the immune system and makes them more susceptible to infections. It is not spread through litter boxes, food/water bowls, or grooming. Deep bite wounds spread the virus so a lot of unaltered tom cats on the streets are infected.
People are told that FIV cats should be only cats and this results in them being abandoned or not adopted. If the cat is not aggressive there's no reason for them to be only cats.
Here is proof that FIV cats can live their best lives in a multi-cat home! Good diet and prompt vet care can help them live full, long, happy lives! Please don't overlook a cat at a shelter because of FIV.
FIV+ cats have so much love to give! Give them a chance!
Be pawsome! Do pawsome! This is the way.
