03/02/2023 Update

Everyone is good and I've been on a project.

Gia is stretched out sleeping so he doesn't care if he's still in my room.

This post is about Pixie.

I rescued her little girl, Dixie, on September 1st with a ruined left arm. She was immediately fixed and the entire left front leg was amputated. I brought her home to heal.

A week later, on the 8th, the woman that had contacted me in the first place sent a picture of her mom, Pixie, with a rotting tail! I was really pretty mad that she hadn't told me about it while I was there the first time! But I hauled butt to get her.

Most of her tail was destroyed by her constantly trying to clean it and infection. It was really graphic. She was spayed and all but 2-3 inches of her tail was amputated. I brought her home and put her in a quickly made pen. She was, and remains, completely feral.

I've never been happy about the pen she was in but she was safe and comfortable. Fast forward, there are no more kittens to lock up at night and last night I started redecorating the big pen for her.

Today I removed panels from both pens, pulled out her litter box and food and waited. I left the room for a minute and came back to see she had gone to the big pen! Closed up the opening and dismantled that horrible cage I had made.

She still hates me mostly. I get a few slow blinks then hissing but I think she likes it! I may never be able to pet her but she's going to get used to me being in the pen to clean and feed. I'm hoping one day I can pet her but if not that's OK. Everything is on her terms. I just don't want to let a 150% feral cat loose in my house so she can disappear and never be semi-tame. It will take a lot of time and patience but Pixie has a townhouse now instead of an efficiency apartment!

PS: Mo had a good first night and is very curious about everything outside the kennel! He's very sweet and let's me hold him with no problem.

Next week, if his tests are negative, I'll let him start roaming around and hope for no cat politics!
